Transidency has coupled up with the global short film network – Future Shorts, to present a screening related to the Time of Distance exhibition.

Friday 25 April 2008 /// Tickets €5

Berlin 7pm GMT+1 /// ACUD Kino, Veteranestr. 21, 10119
Helsinki 8pm GMT+2 /// Andorra Kino, Eerikinkatu 11, 00100

FUTURE SHORTS SECTION:

WE HAVE DECIDED NOT TO DIE
Dir: Daniel Askill / Australia /2003
Ten minutes to die for. A breath-taking burnished triptych, it evokes a surreal ritualistic world, whose characters appear to float free of space and time.

NIE SOLO SEIN
Dir: Jan Schomburg / Germany / 2004
One morning Max finds himself in a world in which time runs backwards. Will he find his way through this strange world?

HUONEESTA TOISEEN (FROM ONE ROOM TO ANOTHER)
Dir: Risto-Pekka Blom / Finland / 2003
A visual objection against similarity.

BATTAILLE
Dir: Nicolas Provost / Belgium / 2003
Two samurai are fighting against each other over a woman. Or are they fighting for the cosmos? A refashioning of a samurai fight from Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon.

CITY PARADISE
Dir: Gaelle Denis / UK / 2004
When Tomoko moves to London she finds the city an alienating place, but a supernatural encounter changes everything.

M CRAFT (Music Video for DRAGONFLY)
Dir: Gemma Burditt / UK / 2006
A man leaves his house in North West London to find a rowing boat parked in his street. Curious, he climbs in and rows. Courtesy of BBC Film Network.

I AM NOT VAN GOGH
Dir: David Russo / USA / 2005
A misfit artist proposes a film production to a confused public arts festival panel. A true story, many times over, originally created as a site-specific art installation for Seattle’s Bumbershoot festival.

TRANSIDENCY SECTION:

THE ILLUMINUOUS ONES
Dir: Jaakko Ruuska / Finland / 2008 / 31 min 31s (13 frames)
Zorro and Boris, those ruthless spirits of love, the Illuminous ones, lead me into the zone where our culture was seen only as disappearing forms of wasteland.

MILAN
Dir: Michaela Kezele & Kathrin Henkel / Serbia&Germany/ 2007/ 24 min
In the midst of the 1999 NATO air-raids in Yugoslavia, two brothers make plans to play hide and seek in the forest.

LOVESICK
Dir: Spela Cadez, Germany/Slovenia 2007 / 8min
A delightful animation that shows that love really can conquer all - even the hazards

SPECIAL SCREENING:

A FATE AMENABLE TO CHANGE
Dir: Gillian Holt / Germany & Finland / 2006
In this film parallel realities, space and non space, time and non time, recursivity, loss, and discovery are explored through the experiences of a young woman stranded in time and space. her journey is dialogue with the beauty which is found in the unplanned, uncontrolled, and the unforeseen.

19. April 08: Highlights - The Time of Distance

“He is not you uncle, he is your father” Performance by Linda Franke

Chapter V ( in which the artist meets her father but mistakes
him for her uncle, they have dinner and talk about the risks of nuclear power stations. The carpet fringes need to be combed weekly . )

The performance artist Linda Franke works in an unusually sensual way and construes a narrative which reveals her affinity to surrealist paintings and a fantastically bizarre world of film images. For The Time of Distance Linda will paint a picture of her performance before it takes place in Helsinki, and will use her memories of the painting as a script for the performance. The painting will be exhibited in Berlin and the performance will be web-streamed from Helsinki.

************************************************************************************************

Portable VoIP Karaoke by Patrick Jambon

Inspired by Berlin's sausage streetvendors, who carry their grill equipment on their own bodies, Patrick will bring his portable karaoke machine to Helsinki and invite and motivate people to participate, to sing. The idea is to sing simultaneously through VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) both in Berlin and Helsinki. The webcam will capture the lyrics on the screen in Helsinki, while the projector will displays these in Berlin; loudspeakers will allow the audience to hear the singers perfom a duet, seperated by thousands of miles.

    Berlin (GMT+1) 19:00 Hope&Glory Web-stream
Helsinki (GMT+2) 20:00 Myymälä2 / Maa-tila Live

************************************************************************************************

Galleri Bergman & Myymälä2 present, in association with Transidency - The Time of Distance:

The Third Power (Swe) -

Performance artists Marja-Leena Sillanpää, Pär Thörn, and Leif Elggren explore the aesthetic implications of breakfast chats, printing ink, and mishearings. They lay bare the gap between the fragmentary orchestra pit of music, the heroic features of everyday life, and the emptiness of mass media. This performative work is realised through cut-up technique, voice, improvisation, and movement.

Duration: 14:00 - 22:00
Myymälä2, Uudenmaankatu 23, 00100 Helsinki

How many times must one watch a film in order to enter the life of it?

Can we inhabit two worlds at the same time?

How can we enter the world of fiction?

– An improvisatory research/performance project involving experimentation in entering the life of fiction during the Time of Distance Exhibition, Helsinki and Berlin 18 - 27 April.

TEST SUBJECT

Sanni Priha – a film and performance artist

CONCEPT

Over a period of nine days a research laboratory will be set up to investigate the possibilities to transfer our body/mind into a world of fiction film. The artist has developed an extensive film viewing method in which one is subjected to a film repeatedly for a significant amount of time. In this particular (pseudo-)scientific research, the test subject is exposed to the film Mulholland Drive by David Lynch. Is it possible for one to exists in two places, the “real” and the fictive one at the same time? With a conscious mind, can we split it, the mind, as well as our body into two, in order to reach another world?
